Davidoff (@davidoffcigars) LE 2023 - Millennium Blends

Lancero (7 x 40) || L: 177.8, ø: 15.88 Factory: Cigars Davidoff Wrapper: Ecuadorian Hybrid 151 Binder: Mexican Sumatra Seco Filler: Dominican Mejorado Seco; Piloto Seco; San Vicente Visus; & Yamasá Ligero In Short: A bolder profile with lots of nuance-she does settle down in the 2ⁿᵈ to final third but all-in-all great notes throughout. Construction: Fantastically wrapped, despite being dried for over a month, she is still supple, oily and very firm throughout. Nose is kind of wet-dog and peppery chestnuts. Cold/Hot Draw: Cold draw is exquisite-very open with a touch of resistance-tastes almost like chocolate covered dates. Continuing without flaw. Burn-line: A bit wobbly, several touch-ups required. Very slow smoker; she demands your time and attention. Ash: Cement to light gray with a poor structure. Stays on the stick well…until it doesn’t. Smoke: Great output, texture is rather smooth but also a bit thin. Not a knock. ⅓: Explodes forward with really sharp, musky toasted oak, hazelnuts, touch of distant chlorine, nutmeg, a bold black pepper note and that musk/tang lingers into the finish, almost like a lactobacillus culture. Progressing into a nutty carrot cake with some rattan elements. Opening even further with french toast and cream aspects atop the hazelnuts, garnished with dark chocolate shavings-this would make a beautiful breakfast cigar. The rattan subsiding into a defined charred oak ensemble. I can certainly see the prune with the charred oak wood and grated, roasted chestnut. The rattan returns with a now white pepper to back it up and a light green tea on the finish. ⅔: Floral, almonds break from the green tea, still with a subdued chestnut and white pepper. Nougat, chocolate and chestnuts bolster the expression further in a dark flavored approach. White pepper turns black and almonds are non-existent, harkening back to the hazelnuts. Sometimes the flavor notes the manufacturer states just aren’t that precise. A little transition to funky Elmer’s glue and cashews with lightly charred oak, touches of vanilla and a background of rattan. Some oscillation back and forth on notes. ³⁄₃: She continues on the chestnut/hazelnut rich, slight nutmeg, french toast, cashews, cedar and black pepper. A touch of licorice on the mid and back palate. White/black pepper picks up in intensity. Ending sweeter chestnut/hazelnut, cedar, charred oak, mired in a muddy divot. The pepper may subside but it never leaves. Duration: 2hrs 12mins MSRP: $29.⁰⁰ ᵁˢᴰ Ratings:

  • Very pleasant. This was a rather complex blend with plenty of nuance and great overall flavors. For the price, I’d only grab a few more for the years ahead but I’d be hard-pressed to buy a box. Probably one of the better blends I’ve had from Davidoff.

Pairing: Barrell Bourbon ‘Vantage’. Uncertain of the flavors to anticipate, I felt a bold, rounded bourbon would best fit the bill. The pour is a bit hot and overpowering the blend but it’d be the case where proofing down might make for a perfect pairing. Even a wheated bourbon would fit the bill well.
